Abstract: Graduation speeches function as influential communicative platforms that shape how students interpret
achievement, identity, and future roles. This study examines an inspirational graduation speech
delivered by a Filipino alumna, focusing on its articulation of motivation, nationalism, and leadership.
Using qualitative narrative analysis, the research explores how lived experiences are translated into
value-laden messages that resonate with graduates. Findings indicate that personal narratives grounded
in perseverance and faith strengthen motivational orientation, reinforce collective identity, and
promote leadership framed as service and ethical responsibility. By linking individual success to
community contribution, the speech reflects broader educational goals in developing socially
responsible citizens. This study contributes to the literature by positioning graduation speeches as
informal pedagogical tools that influence student development beyond formal instruction. The findings
suggest that intentional use of narrative discourse in academic ceremonies can enhance holistic
education and prepare graduates for meaningful societal participation. |
