Abstract: Amid accelerating digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a pivotal force in
redefining traditional educational models, particularly within arts disciplines that require significant
individualisation, such as music. This study presents a narrative literature review to systematically
categorise AI applications in music education and to identify the associated opportunities and risks.
The analysis demonstrates that AI serves as both a “cognitive scaffold” and a co-creative partner,
offering substantial support across performance, theory, and composition through real-time feedback
and personalised learning pathways. These findings provide a valuable reference for educators seeking
to make informed strategic decisions in developing intelligent and sustainable music learning
ecosystems.
