Abstract: This study examined how disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) awareness and adaptation
influence the resilience of tertiary students in Davao de Oro, Philippines. A quantitative, nonexperimental design with descriptive, correlational, and predictive approaches was employed. Data
were collected from a stratified sample using an adapted and pilot-tested questionnaire based on
previously validated instruments. The tool measured students' awareness of earthquakes, floods, and
typhoons, their behavioral and psychological adaptation, and levels of resilience. The results showed
that students demonstrated high levels of awareness, adaptation, and resilience. Further analysis
revealed that awareness and adaptation were significantly related to resilience, with psychological
adaptation emerging as the strongest predictor. These findings support the theoretical insights of
Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory and Bronfenbrenner's Ecological System Theory, suggesting that
self-efficacy, emotional regulation, and a supportive environment play a meaningful role in shaping
students' capacity to cope with adversity. |
